Frankfurt Map Poster: Mainhattan: the river, the towers and the green ring
Why Frankfurt works so well as a map poster
Frankfurt's map is organised by two curves: the Main river sweeping through the city, and the Anlagenring, the crescent of parks laid out on the demolished city walls that still encircles the centre. Inside that green ring sit the rebuilt lanes of the Altstadt around the Römer and the dense blocks of the banking district.
South of the river, Sachsenhausen adds its own finer grain, with the Museumsufer lining the embankment, while the rail lines fan dramatically into the Hauptbahnhof from the west. It is a compact, legible city that turns into a surprisingly elegant print.
Best palettes for Frankfurt
- Noir — the signature pick: sleek black on black, as sharp as the Mainhattan skyline itself.
- Blueprint — technical and precise; fitting for a city of banks, fairs and engineering.
- Warm Beige — quiet and warm, softening the financial city into something you want in a living room.
Where to centre the map and which radius to use
Centre on the Römer with a 5 km radius: the Main, the full green Anlagenring, Sachsenhausen and the rail fan into the Hauptbahnhof all land in frame, with the old town right at the heart of the poster.

Which size to print
City maps with lots of fine streets reward size: 30×40 cm is the sweet spot for a desk or hallway, 50×70 cm and 60×90 cm turn the map into a statement piece where individual streets remain legible from across the room. Stick to matte paper so the dark palettes do not reflect. Read the printing and framing guide.
