Naples Map Poster: Spaccanapoli, the bay and a city built on hills
Why Naples works so well as a map poster
Naples has one of the most dramatic maps in Europe. The centro storico is a dense weave of ancient decumani, split clean through by the arrow-straight line of Spaccanapoli — a single street so unwavering it is visible from the hills above, slicing the old city in two.
Around that core the terrain takes over: the Vomero hill rising behind with its funiculars, the fortress of Castel Sant'Elmo at the top, the long curve of the seafront past Castel dell'Ovo, and the port opening onto the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius presiding just beyond the frame.
Best palettes for Naples
- Sunset — the signature pick: warm Mediterranean oranges, the light of an evening over the bay.
- Noir — shadowy and intense, like the alleys of the Quartieri Spagnoli after dark.
- Warm Beige — soft tuff-stone tones that let the tangle of streets speak for itself.
Where to centre the map and which radius to use
Centre on Piazza del Plebiscito with a 4 km radius: the centro storico with Spaccanapoli, the Vomero hill, the seafront castles and the port fit in one frame, with the bay as breathing space below.

Design your own Naples poster
Pick any of the 17 palettes, set the exact centre and radius described above, choose the size and the label text (Naples, or a neighbourhood name), and we render it for you from live map data after checkout. From 14 €, usually ready in 5–15 minutes.
Which size to print
City maps with lots of fine streets reward size: 30×40 cm is the sweet spot for a desk or hallway, 50×70 cm and 60×90 cm turn the map into a statement piece where individual streets remain legible from across the room. Stick to matte paper so the dark palettes do not reflect. Read the printing and framing guide.
