Vancouver Map Poster: a peninsula city between mountains and sea
Why Vancouver works so well as a map poster
Vancouver may have the best natural composition of any city map: downtown sits on a peninsula with Stanley Park's dark green thumb at its tip, False Creek curls underneath, English Bay opens west, and the North Shore mountains rise straight from the water.
The grid does the human part, the geography does the rest — inlets, beaches, bridges and the great port. It is a map that barely needs a palette to look spectacular.
Best palettes for Vancouver
- Emerald City — the signature pick: rainforest greens for the city in the forest.
- Ocean — Pacific blues for a city defined by its inlets.
- Midnight Blue — city lights reflected in dark Pacific water.
Where to centre the map and which radius to use
Centre on Canada Place with a 6 km radius: Stanley Park, both bridges, False Creek and Kitsilano's beaches all fit with the harbour as negative space. Don't crop Stanley Park — it makes the composition.

Design your own Vancouver poster

Which size to print
City maps with lots of fine streets reward size: 30×40 cm is the sweet spot for a desk or hallway, 50×70 cm and 60×90 cm turn the map into a statement piece where individual streets remain legible from across the room. Stick to matte paper so the dark palettes do not reflect. Read the printing and framing guide.
