About the Lyon map
two rivers and a peninsula between them
Lyon is a city drawn by two rivers. The Rhône runs straight and confident down the east side while the Saône curls lazily past Vieux Lyon, and between them lies the Presqu'île, the long peninsula that narrows to a point at the Confluence where the two currents finally meet.
Around that double spine the map gets wonderfully varied: the Renaissance lanes of Vieux Lyon pressed against Fourvière hill, the silk-weavers' slopes of the Croix-Rousse, the orderly blocks of the Part-Dieu, and the great green oval of the Parc de la Tête d'Or anchoring the north-east corner.
Noir: black on black turns the two rivers into elegant dark ribbons.
Centre on Place Bellecour with a 4 km radius and the whole story fits: both rivers, the full Presqu'île down to the Confluence, Fourvière, the Croix-Rousse and the Tête d'Or park in one frame.
