Miami Map Poster: the bay, the beach and the causeways between

Why Miami works so well as a map poster

Miami's map is really three maps in one: the mainland grid of numbered streets and avenues, the wide blue void of Biscayne Bay, and the slender barrier island of Miami Beach out on the Atlantic edge. The MacArthur and Venetian causeways stitch the three together, hopping across a chain of man-made islands.

Look closer and the details keep giving: the Miami River wriggling out of downtown, the crescent of South Beach, Star and Palm islands sitting like stepping stones in the bay, and the marinas fringing Brickell. Water is the main character here, and the poster knows it.

Best palettes for Miami

  • Pastel Dream — the signature pick: Art Deco pinks and mints straight from Ocean Drive.
  • Midnight Blue — neon-on-navy energy, Miami Vice from above.
  • Noir — high-contrast black that makes the bay read as pure negative space.

Where to centre the map and which radius to use

Centre on Bayfront Park with a 6 km radius so downtown, Brickell, the causeways, the bay islands and all of South Beach share the frame. Landscape orientation lets the mainland-bay-beach sequence breathe. Landscape orientation suits this city best; every ready-made design also ships landscape versions in the extras ZIP.

Which size to print

City maps with lots of fine streets reward size: 30×40 cm is the sweet spot for a desk or hallway, 50×70 cm and 60×90 cm turn the map into a statement piece where individual streets remain legible from across the room. Stick to matte paper so the dark palettes do not reflect. Read the printing and framing guide.
